This morning was so much fun ... I was sitting on the couch thinking that I should get outside & paint, so I opened the front door to look out & a woman had pulled up & was unloading her paints right in front of the house. I joined her & we had a ball all morning long ... we painted in silence, we talked, we laughed and we visited with all of Sunday morning passersby. My neighbor, Lillian, walked over to say hi after grabbing a cup of coffee at the coffee shop. We chit chatted for a couple of minutes & then she went on her way. A bit later Lillian returned with a poem she had written about us & it sums up the morning perfectly ... Thanks, Lillian for sharing your wonderful words! And Happy Mother's Day to All!
Poetic Painting
by Lillian Jane
Elizabeth & her friends,
Out sitting on the walk,
Enjoying the bright Spring morn,
And chatting while they work.
Two of them are painting,
The other soaking up the sun.
With gentle humor and quiet ways,
They're having lots of fun.
The sunlight is so perfect.
It brings out each detail,
Which they capture on their triptych,
Each brick, fence post and rail.
There is, alas, a sour note
To their idyllic plan.
'Cause when a car comes roaring by
It showers the paint with sand.
Elizabeth and her friends all know
They'll need to finish soon.
When the good light has moved away,
They'll be painting the St. L. at noon!
I love the neighborhood and everything that happened this morning is why. WOW! What a place to live! And yes, I will be painting the Saint Lawrence later today as tomorrow the dismantling will begin.
